July 10 - Mountain Bike Monteriggoni

Castle of Monteriggoni
We took the car today, to meet our guide, Gian in Abbadia Isola for a mountain bike ride.  He brought us nice, full suspension mountain bikes, and he had an Ebike.  Francine could have used easier gearing for our 2 climb, 2 descent ride.

Had a nice climb to a singletrack descent then we opted to go to the Monterigonni Castle.  We had Iced Coffee - Iced Fredo - Cafe Shakerato, which were amazing.  They take 2 shots of espresso, Ice and Sugar into a martini shaker and shake real hard.  The crema and sugar turn real creamy frothy.  It was so good.  We thought for sure there was milk/cream and cocoa.  The bar tender said no.

We had a nice start of a climb in the woods.  Once the grade steepened Francine got off to walk.  Here the guide offered his Ebike.  He finished the super hard, rocky climb on her mountain bike, and with a 100% attitude change, Francine beat both the guide and Kevin up all the climbs, only using the lowest assist setting.  Both Kevin and Francine think the guide was out to crush Kevin, as he did mention that he took the steeper, harder, rockier uphill route once he switched bikes with her.  We don't think he liked that Kevin was faster than him on the downhills, and would even pass him.

So, after starting our final descent of the day, we came out on a road, and the guide said something like, the trail should be on the right, but he went left on the gravel road, and we descended entirely on gravel road.  We got to the bottom of the trail we were supposed to take, and he stopped and pointed out the trail we missed.  Quite a dissapointment, as we didn't pay someone to take us on gravel road descents.  Overall a nice day but our Guide managed to miss all three trails that are listed on trailforks.

23 miles, 4300 feet of climbing.
