July 13, Florence for the day

Sally dropped us off bright and early in Castelfiorentino, for the 7:07 am train to Florence, where we were to meet Stephanie, Anthony, Eli and Marcus, who spent the previous night in Florence.  The train pulled into the Florence station, where we promptly caught a cab, to get us to the tour group meeting point by 8:02am, only a couple minutes late.

The 6 of us were paired up with another family of 7 for a small group, Early entrance VIP to The Academia and Duomo.  We even got in ahead of the other groups ahead of us for the Early entrance, which was nice.  It must have been the VIP part of our tour.  We got in to see David with practically no one else there.

Next was the Battista, and into the Duomo thru some back door, where there was no line.  There was a line almost circling the huge Duomo, and doubling back onto itself.  There is no way we would ever wait in a line like that, especially in the heat.  Pictures don't do the line justice.

We got to climb to the top of the Duomo, on all 3 levels.   465 stairs or so, we are told.

Once finished, we went back to Steph's hotel, and had a nice lunch, before taking the train back to Castelfiorentino, where Sally the taxi service picked us up again.
