July 18 Wednesday Sella Ronda tour

Carl, owns a bike shop in Germany
Our hotel, Hotel Linder, caters to both hikers and mountain bikers.   At breakfast and dinner it was a mix of the retired seniors that hiked, and the younger crowd that was there for the mountain biking.  The guide have a standard rotation of rides that basically cloverleaf out from our hotel.  Starting on Monday with a shakedown tour close to the hotel.  Each day thereafter the routes loop out and around the large peaks that dominate the vista.  Each day has been a mix of natural trails, doubletrack, pavement, flow trails, gondolas, chairlifts, and trams as we navigate around the peaks and valleys.  We missed Monday, but the next four days were a great mix of all types of riding.   Often involving very steep descents and lots of braking.   Most of the ascending was done using the lift system.  We paid $147 euro for a 5 day lift ticket that worked at any of the lifts in the region.

Day 2 started with a steep paved road behind the hotel to reach our first Gondola nestled in a valley above our town of Selva.   Today we covered 46.6 miles and had 16,000 feet of elevation gain including using the lifts.   That adds up to a lot of downhill!

The weather was perfect, hills are green, and everywhere we rode was scenic.
